E-40 Plans Another "Revenue Retrievin'" Double Album Set For March 29th

Posted by Cool Nutz Lifestyle Blog |

By next March, E-40 will have 15 solo albums under his belt, as the Vallejo lyricist readies "Overtime Shift" and "Graveyard Shift," 'cause he stays workin'.

Vallejo, California emcee veteran E-40 released Revenue Retrievin': Day Shift and Revenue Retrievin': Night Shift on March 30 of this year. The Click co-founder's twelfth and thirteenth albums respectively both cracked the Top 200 of the charts, while the Sick Wid It Records CEO now aligned with EMI distribution after previous deals with Warner Brothers and Jive.

It has now been announced that the revenue will continue to be retrieved. On February 8, 2010, E-40 is expected to release Revenue Retrievin': Overtime Shift and Revenue Retrievin': Graveyard Shift. This will pull the Bay Area icon into his fifteenth solo album in a career that's prompted hits such as "Sprinkle Me," "Captain Save A Hoe" and 2006's Keak da Sneak-assisted "Tell Me When To Go."

In related news, 40's brother and Click bandmate D-Shot has recently released a music industry book. E-40's artist Turf Talk is expected to release his next album before year's end.

E-40 is presently on tour with Tech N9ne and Glasses Malone. Dates are available here.

Koshir drops "White Girl Diaries" on Wapikiya Records Oct. 5th, 2010

Posted by Cool Nutz Lifestyle Blog |

Debut Album To Be Released On Wapikiya/SMC Records
White Girl Diaries Features Appearances From Krizz Kaliko, Kutt Calhoun, Cool Nutz & Luni Corleone
September 1st, 2010 – Born in Anchorage, Alaska , Koshir was almost always on the move. He and his family relocated several times when he was a child. By the time he was 18, he had been in legal trouble in Colorado, Alaska and Montana .
After nearly a decade of personal upheaval, incarceration and overall turmoil, Koshir made a last ditch effort to turn his life around and make something of himself, as the then 19-year-old enrolled at Mesa State College of Colorado. After 3-months of collegiate life, that’s exactly what happened, as a friend introduced him to the music of rapper Tech N9ne and he found his calling—and simultaneously began paying more attention to making music than going to school.

Koshir’s life soon became consumed with music – writing it, recording it, promoting it and performing it. He was recording music on his laptop, which lead to his first performances. From there, Koshir’s enjoyable brand of radio ready, party-centric music, non-stop hustle and grind earned him a major buzz in the region. He released edgy Independent releases such as Garbage and Illy Wonka And The Pilly Poppin Factory and was also opening for A-List (Twista, E-40, Ying Yang Twins, Too $hort and Mistah Fab) national talent when they would perform in the area.

Now based in Montana and aligned with emerging Montana-based imprint Wapikiya Records, Koshir is ready to make his mark on the national scene with White Girl Diaries, an album that focuses on women, making money and having fun. The airy “Baby I Go” is an understated club jam, while the imaginative “SpongeBob Squshy” is a hyphy track that displays Koshir’s comedic persona. Elsewhere, Koshir displays the many facets of his personality with the playful “Naked Twister” f/Krizz Kaliko of Tech N9ne’s Strange Music family and the more demented “Killin All Lames” with Cool Nutz and Double00, while “Poe Boi” details his struggles in the streets.

“I want to be that one that was doubted, that came from nothing and made something better,” he says. “I feel like it’s time to do something different. With White Girl Diaries, the people behind it and the money behind it, it will actually get to some ears, some people that actually have influence.”
The fact that you’re reading this means that he already has.

You can check out Koshir’s feature in the September 2010 issue of Murder Dog Magazine here: http://my.texterity.com/murderdogmagazine/vol17no2#pg24

Cool Nutz "So Portland" hit Dat Piff with FREE Download

Posted by Cool Nutz Lifestyle Blog |

Here’s a brand new mixtape brought to you by Portland’s own, Cool Nutz. “So Portland” is an ode to Cool’s home. He’s always been proud of his home, and ready to display the quality of hip-hop that comes from here. Though never looked upon as a hot bed for urban music, he feels that Portland does a good job of holding it down and putting out some very high quality beats.

This mixtape is a recap of what Cool Nutz has been up, as well as new and exclusive tracks that haven’t been released. On this project he was able to release material that he did with E-40, BG of The Hot Boys, Luni Coleone, Jake One, Bosko, Maniac Lok, Kenny Mack, Pricy, Toni Hill, J. Townsend, and Chris Ray. One of his favorite tracks on this album is “Young Mix A Lot”, which pays tribute to a NW legend, they had the privilege of working with. Another standout track is “Blacktop” which features Pricy, and will be release on his upcoming album “Incredible”.

But take a listen for yourself and be the judge. Does Portland pass the test? If Cool has anything to say about it, indeed it does. Cool Nutz is set to drop his latest masterpiece "Incredible" on Tuesday June 15th, 2010. "Incredible" boasts a list of appearances from Mistah FAB, Bosko, Maniac Lok, Kenny Mack, Liv Warfield, Arjay, Chris Ray, Pricy, Mic Crenshaw, and Steve.

Production duties are handled entirely by up and coming Super Producer Terminill from Flatline Productions.

"Incredible" features the soon to be smash single "Monster Up", which there will soon be a video to follow.

Be on the lookout people....

I was actually inspired to knock out "So Portland" by the fact that I already had the title in my head, but never really put it all together to get it out there to the people.

I have always been very proud of where I came from, and I always like to put it out there that quality hip-hop comes out of Portland. We have never been looked at as a hot bed for urban music, but I feel like we hold it down in grand fashion and we are putting out some very high quality music.

I wanted to give the people a recent recap of some of my work, as well as new and exclusive tracks that hadn't been out there yet for release.

On this project was able to release material that we did with E-40, BG of The Hot Boys, Luni Coleone, Jake One, Bosko, Maniac Lok, Kenny Mack, Pricy, Toni Hill, J. Townsend, and Chris Ray.

This project is an example of where I have come from to where I am going. One of my favorite tracks on this album is "Young Mix A Lot", as it pays tribute to a NW legend, who we had the privilege of working with. Another standout track is "Blacktop" which features Pricy. The feeling of this song just puts me in a good place, and is going to be released on my upcoming album "Incredible". Another song that really means alot to me is "Jesus Juice", as I am a very spiritual person, and I was just putting a spin on the Michael Jackson term for wine, but really just saying come take a sip of what makes me create great music. I had a lot of blessings over the years, and gotta pay my respects.

Another fine point about "So Portland" is that it is entirely clean and kid friendly, so you can play it in any environment.

SXSW 2010: Cool Nutz - Spinner

Posted by Cool Nutz Lifestyle Blog |

Portland, Ore. based hip-hop artist Cool Nutz has been creating music for nearly 20 years, both independently and with a major label. This summer, he plans to release his next album. He's currently touring with Swollen Members until this year's SXSW, which will be his third time at the festival. Cool Nutz spoke with Spinner about his style, the Portland music scene, classical music and party boundaries.

How did you get your start?

Basically, I started out in the late '80s break-dancing, [and] then as break-dancing became less popular Bosko and I started a record company. He started producing and making tracks. I was around the music, so I would be writing rhythms. As time evolved I got more serious. I started recording songs. We put out our first full-length cassette album. People started buying it. We put out our first single that was really popular in Portland. We got a record deal with Atlantic Records and with Big Beat. That deal didn't work out, so we put out the first official Cool Nutz cd, 'Harsh Game For the People.' That exploded in the northwest and opened the doors for Jus Family Records and my solo career.

How would you describe your sound?

Xhibit meets Jay-Z with a little Talib Kweli and some E-40. It's definitely urban, it's definitely informative, but then like Xhibit it's hard and like Jay-Z it's mature. I'm not a young dude, so its not like I'm making dance records for the kids. If you check out 'Love Iz,' which is on the MySpace and SXSW page you'll see it's more mature, like urban black music.

Who are your musical influences?

My early musical influences were Rakim, EPMD, Ice Cube, Confidence, Most Wanted and then more recently Jay-Z, Nas, the Game, Talib Kweli, Aesop Rock.

What's your musical guilty pleasure?

Classic soul and classical music. It's a breath of fresh air from what you normally hear. I'm not all like Mozart '5th Concerto,' but I listen to a lot of classical when I'm working. Classic soul like Marvin Gaye and Otis Redding.

How is the Portland music scene?

Well, Portland is more of an indie music scene in the sense that there's a lot of indie rock, a lot of clubs to book on your own. There is no mass industry where you can be like LA or New York or Miami. You don't have those same opportunities, so you have to push the line yourselves. It also gives us room to have a lot of variety where the music is influenced by underground hip-hop like Atmosphere and Brother Ali, but there's also a lot of popular music influenced by the bay like Mac Dre, E-40, Messy Marv and Hieroglyphics. In the south, people listen to Soulja Boy, Young Jeezy, and Outkast. Portland is a melting pot of a lot of places.

Is this scene what fueled you to be on your own?

Yeah, definitely. You had that explosion of the independent Bay scene like E-40. We were taking notes of that independence. They showed us that you can do it. You can put out records yourself. Being in a city like this doesn't have the same boundaries as LA or New York where you're stuck having to work within the hip-hop realm.

Are people receptive to that diversity?

Yeah, definitely. Oregon is a predominantly white state. Of course, we have an urban community, but again it's not like an LA or New York or New Orleans. You have to know how to operate and be able to function with these different fans that are listening. I've been blessed to be able to open for the Game, Ghostface, Wu-Tang, and Outkast. I can craft my show to fit on a bill with Kid Cudi or whoever. It gives you the ability to play in front of anybody.

When you walk in the door, sometimes people might say, "Here comes the hip hop guys." Then they're amazed. Not only was the music good, but he connected with the audience. He was real friendly and accessible. It wasn't like he walked in with his pants sagging, smelling like weed, cussin' up a storm.

What can people expect at your SXSW performance?

I feel like my show is always good music. I'm saying something, the songs are good, the DJs good. The energy we bring and the connection to the people is tight. I'm not just trying to rhythm. We're trying to entertain and connect.

What do you plan on doing at SXSW?

This will be my third time playing SXSW. For me, it's an opportunity to have everybody in one place and connect with them and be able to talk with people, get business cards, see panels. Being able to listen to hear some of the industry heavyweights and what they have to say about digital decisions that are made, tour booking, where's technology going with music. It's a one stop shop to get my feet planted and wet.

What's the craziest thing you've seen or experienced while on tour?

Having almost the whole show come back to a hotel and seeing a hotel turning into a party, and every room is a different party and people are smoking and the fire alarm's going off. Just all out wildness and no regard for other guests of the hotel. Just when all the rules go out the window. I'm not like the rock star type in terms of having the mindset with music where I party 'til I drop and get s---faced drunk. That's not me. I kick it and I've seen a lot, been around a lot. But I know you have to get up the next day and be able to function. So I've always had party boundaries for myself.

What does Cool Nutz mean?

People think it means my nuts are cool. But it really doesn't mean that. I'm not like Snoop Dogg or Busta Rhymes. I'm kinda like in the middle. I'm not super laid back, but I'm not super wild. Cool, but could be crazy at the same time.

Swollen Members, Potluck, and Cool Nutz Announce US Tour

Swollen Members have announced the dates for their upcoming US tour alongside Humboldt County hip-hop duo Potluck and Portland's own Cool Nutz. The tour will kick off February 18th, 2010 in Seattle, WA and run through March 7th in Spokane, WA.

"We are excited about this upcoming tour with Potluck," commented Prevail from Swollen Members. "Potluck has been killing it for a while now and they have a great live show to back it up. The balance of what we and the sound Potluck brings to this tour will make for many memorable performances."

"Swollen Members have been in the hip-hop scene for a while now, and we've always respected their sound and the fact that they constantly tour," added 1 Ton from Potluck. "I think the combination of both groups on the same tour is going to make a great show for fans. We're excited to get back out on the road with our Suburban Noize family."
